DaDesktop

Hyper-V Server

UPDATED April 2024

The vast majority of apps run perfectly fine after being set up in the Fresh Start machine with DaDesktop (DD). However, a couple of applications experience issues because of the way cloning works, and they require a bit of extra configuration to function properly.

Fresh Start Fix Notes
  1. Keep in mind that this is a general guide for resolving issues with this application inside Fresh Start. The exact steps might vary based on your specific setup.

  2. Summary – Apply the fix within Fresh Start as outlined below. When Hyper-V is cloned from the FreshStart machine, it often encounters duplicate MAC addresses on the External switch. To avoid this, you can either select the second pre-configured Intel network adapter or remove the external switch in the FreshStart machine before cloning – I’ll walk you through this in detail.

Fix procedure

1. The Hyper-V Manager application is shown below. Right-click to open the Virtual Switch Manager dialog.

2. In the Virtual Switch Manager window that appears, choose the 'External' switch as illustrated, then pick the Intel Pro /1000 network adapter. Note: this option only shows up with newer Windows 10 templates (v71 and above). Click OK, saving the configuration if prompted. Close the Hyper-V Manager.

3. Continue setting up the FreshStart machine as needed. Once finished, shut down the virtual machine from its own operating system and wait for it to stop completely. Then clone the FreshStart machine to the Trainer and Participant machines as necessary.

After applying this fix, the Hyper-V server should operate correctly on both Trainer and Participant machines. If you skip this step, participants might end up seeing each other’s virtual machines instead of their own. This happens because cloning the external network card leads to duplicate MAC addresses on the External switch when cloned from the FreshStart machine.
