How to Create Standalone Desktops
Here's how to create standalone desktops:
- Click 'Standalones' in the top menu
- Click 'Create New Standalone' Desktop
- A dialog will appear as shown below
The purpose of each field is described below:
-
GPU Model
Select the GPU model and type if needed. Check 'Display GPU enabled servers' to only see servers that have GPUs available. -
Datacentre / Server
Pick the datacenter region and server nearest to your location in Germany. -
OS to clone from
Many different Operating Systems are available.

When a template shows 'Copy Required', it means the template is available but must first be copied to the server before use. Typically, only Windows OS might involve extra costs. -
Include Custom, RC, and Old Versions
DaDesktop frequently updates OS templates, but if you're having trouble with the latest one, you can try an older version instead.
-
Memory
The maximum memory the desktops will be allowed. Keep in mind that you're inherently limited by server resources. You can request higher limits by contacting us through Support Chat. -
Label
Optionally, enter an alias to give your standalone a more convenient name.
Choosing an OS Template to Clone
There are several options when picking which Operating System template to use.
You can select from Windows or a variety of Linux distributions like Ubuntu, Debian, Almalinux, and more.
A pre-built template, usually marked with a version number such as V51, can be used.
Alternatively, we now also offer the ability to build fully current Linux templates. The 'Build New' Linux templates use a different build system entirely, starting from Linux sources and applying a script that handles the essential DaDesktop customizations. This keeps the template always up to date, secure, and easier to deploy and maintain.
Building an OS Template
Once you've chosen the template, you'll see a pop-up like the one below.
Click 'Start Building'
Your standalone will then be built. Please note that the build process can take over 30 seconds; if it seems to have stalled, just wait a little longer.
Built Template Now Ready
Now that the template is built, you can adjust any settings, then click 'Save and Create Desktop'.
Your desktop is being created. This normally takes just a few moments, much less than building the template.
Your new standalone is now ready. In the example below, it's called 'julian-6iqm', but you could have given it a more descriptive label if you preferred.
Click 'Connect' to launch and connect to your standalone machine.
