Bare Metal PC Farm
Beyond cloud-based options, DaDesktop also offers direct access to physical, bare metal desktops and servers.
This setup is ideal for situations where each participant gets a dedicated physical machine, and it has proven useful in cases where they require:
- Full server access without virtualization, driven by performance or licensing needs (such as with ONAP or OpenStack).
- Devices that are impossible to virtualize, like certain GPUs, Mellanox cards when firmware modifications are part of the curriculum, or other network hardware.
Additionally, this approach can be integrated into existing physical classrooms in Germany with minimal adjustments, enabling trainers to set up the environment remotely without needing to be on-site.
The Cloud Desktop, originally designed for cloud environments, can be seamlessly deployed and utilized on participants' physical hardware.
Onsite Deployment Requirements
Deploying this solution requires the acquisition of physical control cables, known as ddnexus, which are priced at approximately $100 USD per desktop.
To experiment with this, simply choose the Metal PC option when setting up a Standalone or Fresh-start desktop.
